Long Island Brow Lift With Dr. Vandegrift

A brow lift is a surgical procedure to lift the eyebrows and fade signs of aging on the upper face and brows. This procedure can address drooping brows and asymmetry. Since sagging brows can lead to a tired or angry appearance, many patients find this procedure helps them appear more relaxed or rested.

A brow lift is an excellent stand-alone surgery and pairs well with procedures like eyelid or facelift surgery. By combining a facelift, eyelid lift, and brow lift, patients can refresh their entire face, turning back the clock by a decade or more.

Dr. Meredith Vandegrift is a skilled plastic surgeon offering brow lifts and other facial plastic surgery procedures to her patients in Long Island, NYC, and the surrounding areas. Her patients turn to her for her unique combination of impeccable surgical skills and compassion. She partners with each patient to achieve their ideal results in a supportive and caring medical environment.

Why Do Brows Sag?

Aging causes the brows to move downward. As skin and supportive tissues age, they lose elasticity and begin to droop. The distance between the eyebrows and the eyelashes becomes shorter and the eyelids may develop a wrinkled, saggy appearance.

Genetics may play a role in determining how quickly brow sagging occurs. Patients with a genetic propensity for sagging brows are likely to experience brow sagging at a younger age and potentially at a greater intensity. Other factors can contribute to brow sagging, including age and sun exposure.

The Brow Lift Procedure: What Happens on Surgery Day?

A surgical brow lift typically takes place at our surgical facility while you are under general anesthesia. The procedure typically takes one to two hours. A brow lift is an outpatient procedure, so patients can return home the day of surgery.

There are many different techniques for brow lift surgery. Dr. Vandegrift will select the most appropriate approach for your situation.

The least invasive of the brow lift techniques, an endoscopic brow lift uses small incisions and a specialized device called an endoscope to tighten the muscles and tissues under the skin. An endoscopic brow lift does not remove skin and may not be appropriate for patients with extensive sagging.

In a coronal brow lift, Dr. Vandegrift places a long incision across the top of the head, extending from ear to ear. Dr. Vandegrift lifts the forehead and removes a small portion of the scalp before suturing the incision closed. This technique is ideal for patients with thick hair, since your hair will hide the incisions.

Dr. Vandegrift places incisions at the beginning of the hairline and removes a small portion of skin and tissue from your forehead, tightening tissues through the incision. This technique does not raise the hairline and is best for patients with a receding hairline.

Incisions are hidden behind the hairline to address the lateral one third of the brow, often performed at the same time as an eyelid lift. This procedure has shorter incisions than a traditional brow lift and therefore a shorter healing time.

Neurotoxin can be carefully placed along the brows to temporarily lift them to a more youthful position.

After tightening the skin and tissues, Dr. Vandegrift carefully sutures incisions and bandages them. Patients spend a short time in recovery before returning home after their brow lift procedure.

Recovery After a Long Island Brow Lift

Most patients miss one to two weeks of work after a brow lift. You may need to reduce your overall activity level for several weeks.

Elevating your head can reduce swelling after surgery. Dr. Vandegrift will provide instructions for caring for your incisions and detailed information about medications to take during recovery. Patients return to our office several times during recovery so Dr. Vandegrift can check healing and provide advice during the recovery process.

FAQ

Brow Lift Surgery in Long Island, NY

Dr. Vandegrift places brow lift incisions strategically to minimize the appearance of scarring. With any surgical procedure, scarring is possible, but Dr. Vandegrift takes special care to hide incisions in the hairline whenever possible. After examining your brow area, Dr. Vandegrift can provide personalized information about the likelihood of scarring and the techniques she’ll use to reduce its appearance.

A facelift and brow lift pairing is one of our most requested combinations. A facelift only addresses aging in the lower face. By pairing a facelift with a brow lift, patients can refresh their entire facial appearance with only one recovery time.

Your procedure’s cost will depend on many different variables, including the complexity of the surgery and any complementary treatments that Dr. Vandegrift recommends. To ensure patients receive a detailed and comprehensive quote, we provide pricing information during the consultation appointment.

A brow lift offers long-lasting results. Many patients enjoy a lifted and refreshed facial appearance for many years or even decades. The natural aging process continues after surgery. Patients may want to use dermal fillers and Botox® to slow these effects and maintain brow lift results.

Dr. Vandegrift is happy to perform brow lift surgery on both men and women. This procedure is very effective on male patients with sagging or drooping brows. However, the potential of a receding hairline complicates brow lift surgery for some male patients. Dr. Vandegrift may need to use alternate techniques in patients with thinning hair or a receding hairline.

Pain medications are a critical part of the surgical process. These medications help patients feel more comfortable as they heal. While some patients have concerns over prescription pain medications, temporary use after surgery is safe for many patients. Typically, you’ll only need to rely on prescription pain medications for a few days, after which over-the-counter options are effective for increasing comfort.
