What Is a Non-Surgical Facelift?

The term “non-surgical facelift” can be a bit misleading, which is why Dr. Vandegrift prefers the term “non-surgical facial optimization.” A non-surgical facelift isn’t a facelift at all because it does not involve removing skin and excess fat or tightening the remaining tissues.

A non-surgical facelift works differently by using a combination of cosmetic injectables to smooth wrinkles and revitalize the skin. A combination of different injectables can target trouble spots and to refresh the entire face, jawline, and neck area.

Non-surgical facelifts typically involve cosmetic injectables, usually a combination of dermal fillers and Botox. Other non-surgical cosmetic treatments can also enhance your procedure’s results.

Dr. Vandegrift uses many different types of fillers in her non-surgical facelift, including Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Sculptra®. Each filler has unique properties and can provide targeted rejuvenation to specific facial areas.

A non-surgical facelift uses fillers to refresh several prominent areas of the face. The benefits of fillers include:

  • Smooth fine lines, wrinkles, and creases
  • Augment the lips
  • Fill in hollows under the eyes
  • Restore volume and shape to the mid-face and cheeks

Dermal fillers are a quick, convenient product that takes less than an hour to administer. Results from fillers are immediate, and will continue improving after treatment as post-procedure bruising and swelling resolve.

Many of the fillers we use consist of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in the body. Hyaluronic acid is highly biocompatible. Dr. Vandegrift also uses Sculptra, a filler made with poly-L-lactic acid. This filler encourages your body to grow new collagen for youthful skin.

Dermal fillers combine with neuromodulators in a non-surgical facelift. Botox® and Dysport® are two popular neuromodulators that smooth expression lines and dynamic wrinkles. Commonly treated areas include:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Lines between the brows
  • Forehead creases

Botox and Dysport work by interrupting the communication between facial nerves and the muscles that cause wrinkles. Botox and Dysport relax facial muscles, allowing the skin to relax and wrinkles to fade away.

It takes a few days to see results from Botox or Dysport, and your appearance should look naturally refreshed for the next three to four months.

To ensure a safe treatment, Dr. Vandegrift cleanses the skin before administering dermal fillers and neuromodulators. Dr. Vandegrift works quickly, and the injection process usually takes less than 15 to 20 minutes.

Recovery After Dermal Fillers

There is no need to modify your life or schedule after a non-surgical facelift. Patients can immediately resume most daily activities with few restrictions. Dr.  Meredith Vandegrift asks patients to avoid rubbing their skin, as this can change the distribution of filler. You may also need to abstain from exercise and keep your head upright immediately after your procedure.

Redness and bruising are typical after a non-surgical facelift. These side effects fade quickly and are usually gone within a few days. Patients can use makeup to cover any post-treatment bruising or redness.

FAQ

Dr. Vandegrift wants her patients to have a comfortable treatment experience when receiving filler or Botox injections. Topical anesthetic is available, if desired. Dr. Vandegrift also uses a massage wand while performing injections. The gentle pulsating sensation eases discomfort for a more comfortable treatment experience.

The number of injections needed during a non-surgical facelift varies. How many areas of the face do you want to have treated? Which fillers and neuromodulators do you want to use? How advanced is your aging? Patients typically receive a series of injections in several facial areas, such as the forehead, cheeks, and around the mouth.

To ensure accurate pricing information, Dr. Vandegrift encourages patients to schedule a consultation. After a careful facial examination and thorough discussion of your goals, Dr. Vandegrift will provide cost, payment, and financing information for this procedure.

While a surgical facelift directly addresses signs of aging by removing skin and tightening facial tissues, fillers and Botox act as more of a camouflage for aging. Non-surgical treatments cannot remove skin or tighten muscle. While it can be highly effective for patients with early signs of aging, those with more advanced aging may benefit from a surgical facelift instead.

Unlike a surgical facelift, a non-surgical facelift is temporary. Results typically last for four to six months. Touch-up treatments are necessary to maintain your refreshed appearance. Dr. Vandegrift will help you set up a treatment schedule to ensure your non-surgical facelift results are always at their best.
