Dr. Meredith Vandegrift is a female board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in breast and body rejuvenation that restores a youthful, supple appearance after pregnancy or weight loss.

Dr. Vandegrift’s Training

Dr. Vandegrift’s extensive training includes graduating from SUNY Albany magna cum laude, then attending Stony Brook University School of Medicine. From there, she went on to complete a general surgery residency at NYU Langone Medical Center and a research fellowship at the renowned Institute for Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, also at NYU. Finally, she pursued her plastic surgery training with some of the nation’s preeminent leaders in cosmetic, plastic, and reconstructive surgery at Emory University in Atlanta.

A Conversation with Dr. Vandegrift

Why or how did you decide on a career in medicine? What about Aesthetics?

Going into medicine was a choice to help and to serve people. The decision to go into plastic surgery, and even aesthetics, was about improving physical form and function to build confidence.

What do you find fulfilling about your work?

I love the immediate gratification of transformation! The satisfaction that patients get, whether from a small procedure like facial filler or surgeries such as body contouring after weight loss, giving someone a fresh start, or a renewed sense of confidence in the way they present themselves to the world, is so fulfilling for me. Reconstructive surgery also gives people the confidence to continue to function as close to, or sometimes even better than, the way they were before the incident that required reconstruction. And lastly, it is the diversity of my patient population: birth to advanced-aged men and women; I love that this field allows me to affect change on all members of my community.

Anything personal you want to share with your patients?

As a woman and as a mom, I acutely understand the changes a women’s body goes through related to not only pregnancy and childbirth but also the aging process on our faces and bodies. I know what it’s like to want to do something for yourself, to restore what once was, or the desire to make subtle refinements that make you feel better not only when you look in the mirror but also when you step out into the world.
