In the weeks before your thigh lift surgery, Dr. Vandegrift will recommend that you:
- Avoid supplements containing fish oil, gingko, garlic, vitamin A, or vitamin E for two weeks.
- Do not take prescription blood thinners or over-the-counter medications like aspirin or ibuprofen for a week.
- Avoid consuming alcohol for 24 to 48 hours.
- Consume a healthy high-protein, low-sodium diet.
- Stop smoking, vaping, or using any other nicotine products for at least four weeks before and after the procedure.
Once you arrive, our team will welcome you and check you in. Dr. Vandegrift will ensure you are comfortable, answer any last questions, and make surgical markings. Then, you’ll receive anesthesia before Dr. Vandegrift begins your thigh lift surgery.
Typically, Dr. Vandegrift will first perform liposuction to reduce fat and create smoother contours. Then, following your specific surgical plan, Dr. Vandegrift will create incisions above each hip to tighten the skin of the outer thigh and concealed within the inner groin to address the inner thigh skin.
Patients who have a significant amount of loose skin due to weight loss may require an incision that runs along the inner thigh from the groin to the knee.
Once she has removed excess tissue, Dr. Vandegrift will reposition the skin and close the incisions.
Depending on the extent of your thigh lift procedure, it may take from two to six hours.
As a thigh lift is an outpatient surgery, you will need to arrange for someone to drive you home from the hospital and stay with you for the first 24 hours.
Following a thigh lift, most patients experience some bruising and swelling. These effects typically resolve within a few weeks. You may have to wear compression garments for four to six weeks to minimize swelling and aid in recovery.
Most patients plan on taking at least one week off before returning to work. During your recovery, you will need to avoid strenuous activities, including exercise and heavy lifting, for at least four to six weeks. Be sure to follow all Dr. Vandegrift’s recommendations for a smooth, complication-free recovery.
