Facial rejuvenation treatments like a brow lift can help restore your youthful appearance, leaving you looking refreshed and more alert. But if you’re considering a brow lift, there are some questions you probably want to ask.
When you’re looking for facial rejuvenation to dramatically restore your appearance, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Meredith Vandegrift can help you discover how a brow lift may be the solution to turning back the clock and achieving a more youthful appearance.
What Is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift is a surgical procedure that raises the position of the eyebrows to reduce signs of aging on the upper face and brows and produce a more alert and youthful appearance. It addresses sagging, drooping brows and asymmetry that can cause a tired or angry appearance.
A brow lift is an excellent stand-alone surgery and pairs well with procedures like an eyelid lift or facelift for full facial rejuvenation.
What Can Brow Lift Help?
Aging causes the brows to drift downward due to loss of elasticity in the skin and supportive tissues. The distance between the brows and eyelashes becomes shorter, creating a wrinkled, saggy appearance.
Brow lifts raise the eyebrows to a more alert position and improve the appearance of:
- Eyebrows that have lost their arch
- Sagging brows that hood the upper eyelids
- Uneven, drooping brows
- Vertical frown lines between the brows
- Horizontal creases on the forehead and between the eyes
- Furrows on the bridge of the nose
Where Are the Incisions?
When it comes to brow lifts, there are different techniques that will treat varying degrees of sagging:
Endoscopic Brow Lift—As the least invasive technique, it uses small incisions and an endoscope to tighten the muscles and tissues without removing skin. This technique may not be appropriate for patients with extensive sagging.
Coronal Brow Lift—This technique requires a long incision across the top of the head, extending from ear to ear to lift the forehead and remove the redundant portion of the scalp. This technique is ideal for patients with thicker hair.
Hairline Brow Lift—Best for patients with a receding hairline, this technique removes a small portion of the skin from your forehead through small incisions at the beginning of the hairline and tightens the tissues.
Temporal Brow Lift—This technique is used in conjunction with an eyelid lift. Incisions are concealed behind the hairline and address the lateral portion of the brow. This technique uses shorter incisions.
Non-Surgical Brow Lift—In this lift, neuromodulators like Botox® and fillers are used to temporarily lift and smooth the brows.
How Long Is Brow Lift Recovery?
While initial recovery time varies by patient, it is typically one to two weeks. Patients may experience discomfort, numbness, and swelling around the cheeks and eyes. Closely following post-operative instructions, including sleeping with your head elevated, using cold compresses, and taking prescribed medications, helps ensure a successful outcome from your brow lift.
Can I Get Injectables after a Brow Lift?
While the results from your brow lift should last for several years, a brow lift won’t stop the natural aging process from affecting your appearance. Protect your results by wearing sunscreen daily and continuing your healthy lifestyle. Extend the life of your brow lift by smoothing your fine lines and wrinkles with injectables like dermal fillers and Botox®.
